Community Kitchen Hosts Post-Election Unity Luncheon

KEENE, NH: The recent “Community Unity” luncheon co-hosted by the County Democratic and Republican parties was a resounding success. Over 100 people from both parties, as well as independents and the unaffiliated attended the event at the Community Kitchen in Keene. John Therriault, newly installed Republican County Chair, spoke of finding common ground and working together. Carl DeMatteo, Chair of the Cheshire County Democrats, also talked about community spirit and collaboration. Storyteller and humorist Rebecca Rule had the crowd laughing with stories of New Hampshire “characters.” Many noted the energy and camaraderie in the room was heartening.

Although the purpose of the event was to socialize and get to know one another, there were thoughtful, quiet conversations among those with differing opinions. The Community Kitchen was also a recipient of all the good will. Several boxes of food were donated, along with $450 in cash. The consensus was that this should be the first of other collaborations between the parties.
