Action Alert

Show Up for Voting Rights!

Join our partners this Tuesday to protest the voter suppression bill, HB 1264, before its first hearing in the Senate. This bill would have a chilling effect on the rights of eligible New Hampshire voters by creating a modern-day poll tax.

Help fight back by heading to the New Hampshire Legislative Office Building at 9:00 AM tomorrow to show Senate Republicans that we will not sit quietly while they disenfranchise legal voters.

Student Forum on Gun Violence

Students from the Exeter area are co-producing a panel discussion about gun violence in our communities that will take place this Friday, April 13th.

This panel shows that young people are continuing to stand up and express their concerns about the many ways that gun violence impacts children and families in schools, public spaces, in domestic violence situations in police encounters, and in suicides.

The event will take place at Exeter Town Hall (10 Front St), on Friday April 13th from 7pm to 8:30 pm. Register for the event HERE.

Voter Suppression

Tuesday, April 10th, 10:00AM / Election Law and Internal Affairs/ Room 102, Legislative Office Building

SENATE – Election Law and Internal Affairs – HB 1264, establishing a modern-day poll tax

Why this matters: HB 1264 is HB 372’s twin. It is a glorified poll tax that would force domiciled residents and legal voters to pay fees in order to comply with this legislation. This is just the latest in a series of attempts by New Hampshire Republicans to disenfranchise legal voters.

Ban on Conversion Therapy

Tuesday, April 10th, 1:45PM / Health and Human Services / Room 101, Legislative Office Building

SENATE – HB 587-FN, banning conversion therapy

Why this matters: With this bill, New Hampshire has a chance to finally ban the terrible and ineffective practice of conversion therapy for minors. Conversion therapy has been proven to increase rates of depression, anxiety, and suicide among LGBTQIA teens. It is far past time for conversion therapy to end in the state of New Hampshire.

Commuter Rail

Tuesday, April 10th, 1:30PM / Transportation / Room 103, Legislative Office Building

SENATE – Transportation – HB 2018, the state’s 10-year transportation improvement program

Why this matters: Thanks to Democrats, the House of Representatives included in the state’s 10-year transportation improvement program a plan to bring commuter rail to New Hampshire. This happened despite Governor Sununu’s on-again off-again opposition to rail. Commuter rail, which has overwhelming public approval, now heads to the Senate for further deliberations.

Birth Control Insurance Coverage

Wednesday, April 11th, 10:00AM / Commerce and Consumer Affairs / Room 302, Legislative Office Building

HOUSE – Commerce and Consumer Affairs – SB 421, insurance coverage for birth control

Why this matters: Democratic Senator Donna Soucy has taken the lead on this bipartisan bill that seeks to secure rights for women to access birth control without jumping through extra hoops with their insurance plans. In the face of federal attacks on women’s rights to access birth control, this bill would shore up New Hampshire women’s ability to receive birth control easily and at no cost.

Platform Committee

We need your help. Over the next few months, the New Hampshire Democratic Party Platform Committee will travel around the State to hear from you on the content of our 2018 Platform. We are charged with building a Platform that finds the common ground among us, and helps make the case for why Democrats, Independents, and Republicans – our friends and neighbors – should support the Democratic vision for moving New Hampshire forward. The Platform is a statement of our principles and a direct appeal people of New Hampshire.

In an effort to hear from as many democrats as possible, the Committee has scheduled hearings across the state.

County Summits

This spring, the NHDP staff is hitting the road for thirteen County Summits that will be packed with trainings and discussions relevant to strategic planning for 2018 elections! With more than 50% of statewide local committee officers being new members this year we are traveling the state to provide the training and organizing skills that will lay the foundation for success in 2018. We have the momentum, we are fine tuning our skills, and we are building our capacity in every town and county. Sununu Reality Check

Over the past month, Sununu Reality Check played “Sununu Madness,” a game to decide Governor Sununu’s worst failure of leadership in his time in office. The competition came down to the $22,000 pay raise Sununu gave himself on his first day in office and the now 283 days that he has let state employees work without a contract.

Since these failures of leadership are two sides of the same coin, it was difficult to decide which is worse. That’s why we invited you to help us choose by voting in the polls posted by Sununu Reality Check on Twitter. The final poll is now complete, and the worst of Governor Sununu’s leadership failures is his refusal to give state workers a fair contract for the last 283 days.
