Late Thursday night, Republicans in the NH Senate revived Governor Sununu’s school voucher bill, SB 193, by adding the language of the bill as an amendment to HB 1636.

In doing so, Senate Republicans effectively ignored TWO bipartisan House votes that rejected this unconstitutional voucher bill and prevented Sununu and the Republican Party from stealing $141.1 million from school districts over the next decade.

HB 1636 now heads to the House where Sununu will have another chance to pass his voucher bill, when they vote on Thursday, May 10th.

We cannot let HB 1636 pass. Before the vote, call your State Rep. today and urge them to oppose HB 1636 (find your State Rep. by clicking HERE). Be vocal and stay active so that we can kill Sununu’s disastrous bill once and for all!

Tell Sununu to VETO HB 1264 and HB 372

This past week, the State Senate voted to pass HB 1264 – targeting young eligible voters by trying to implement a modern day poll tax. With this vote, they moved twin bills HB1264 and HB372 closer to Governor Sununu’s desk.

As Chris Sununu and his Republican colleagues make it harder to vote for eligible Granite Staters, NH Democrats will continue to stand up for everyone’s right to make their voices heard at the ballot box.

Pizza & Politics: Last Call to Stop HB 1264 and HB 372

Before the House votes on the voter suppression bill HB 1264 on Thursday, join our partners and jump on the phones to urge Sununu to veto HB 1264 and its twin HB 372.

These twin pieces of legislation are designed by the GOP to disenfranchise young eligible voters. While initially saying he “hates” HB 372, Sununu has refused to commit to veto either piece of legislation. Let’s keep up the pressure and tell Sununu to do the right thing on Tuesday!

Restricting Voting Rights

Thursday, May 10th / House / Full Vote

HOUSE – HB 1264, making it harder for eligible young voters by establishing a modern-day poll tax

Why this matters: HB 1264 and HB 372, are twin bills that are designed to disenfranchise young eligible voters by instituting a modern-day poll tax. Last week, the Senate voted on party lines in favor of HB 1264. It now heads to the House for concurrence where it will either be passed and sent to the Governor’s desk, passed and sent to Committee of Conference, or killed.

Take Action: Call your State Representatives and tell them to oppose HB 1264 and sign THIS PETITION to urge Sununu to veto these bills.

School Vouchers

Thursday, May 10th/ House / Full Vote

HOUSE – HB 1636, creating a school voucher program

Why this matters: On Thursday, the Senate added the language of Sununu’s failed SB 193 as an amendment to HB 1636. It now heads back to the House for a THIRD vote. This voucher language would divert millions from public schools to unregulated private, religious, and parochial schools. It has been one of Sununu’s biggest legislative priorities, which is why we need to keep up the pressure to save our public schools.

Take Action: Call your State Representative to urge them to oppose HB 1636.

Legislative Review

In last week’s session, New Hampshire Democrats defeated several of Governor Sununu’s biggest legislative priorities and were able to continue to push through legislation that will help all of New Hampshire.

To start off, New Hampshire House Democrats voted to reauthorize Medicaid Expansion for the next five years, continuing crucial health insurance coverage for more than 50,000 Granite Staters. While the bill passed on a voice vote, the majority of Republican House members voted against reauthorization earlier in the process. Medicaid Expansion reauthorization, SB 313, has a final vote in the Senate before it heads to the Governor’s desk.

Last Wednesday, New Hampshire Democrats carried the transgender rights bill, HB 1319 across the finish line, with every Democrat in both chambers voting to move the bill forward.  This vote marked a day of celebration in New Hampshire’s LGBTQIA community and across the state as transgender equality is now codified in state law.

Republicans continued to move forward with their efforts to restrict voting rights for eligible Granite Staters last week, when the New Hampshire Senate passed the voter suppression bill HB 1264 on party-lines, sending it back to the House for further consideration. This bill and its identical twin HB 372 both seek to create modern-day poll taxes that would specifically target young eligible voters in New Hampshire, making it harder for them to vote.

Sununu Reality Check

After Governor Sununu’s school voucher bill failed to pass the House twice, he maneuvered to attach it as an amendment on an unrelated bill in a last ditch effort to upend the public education system in New Hampshire against the will of the state’s representatives.

Committee to Elect House Democrats 2018 Auction
