… “The decision by the House Rules Committee today was a cowardly display of the Republican party choosing to put politics ahead of the people of New Hampshire. This proposal on bump stocks clearly met the criteria provided in House Rules for late introduction of legislation. The Republican majority failed to site a single legitimate reason for blocking this proposal, and have shirked their responsibility to the citizens of New Hampshire by attempting to push this important debate onto the state Senate . . . Most people in this country, including myself, had no idea what a bump stock was prior to the tragedy in Las Vegas. Given the very real risk of copycat criminals seeking out these devices to carry out their own attack, it is imperative that we act now to protect public safety . . . An individual circumvented the law to carry out the deadliest shooting in American history. The time to act is now. New Hampshire’s Republican leaders have chosen to stick their heads in the sand at a time that our state, and our country, desperately needs real leadership. Today’s decision by the House Rules Committee was shameful.” … – House Democratic Leader Steve Shurtleff (D-Penacook)
