State House Round Up by Sue Ford

Dear Friend,

With an outpouring of peaceful action and love seen in Boston this past weekend, it is important to think globally by acting locally. We can make an impact in our own communities by taking action now. As Democrats, we know the values that we stand for and it is time to reach out to our neighbors and get them involved. As seen from the past Special Elections this summer, knocking on doors and making calls makes a huge difference in the outcome of these races. We need to continue this momentum in all of the upcoming house specials happening this fall, the municipal elections in November and carry it all the way through to our critical midterm elections in 2018.

This past weekend Bedford, Exeter, Laconia, Manchester, the towns of Rockingham District 4 ( Auburn/Chester/Sandown) and many other communities around the state held canvasses for our Resistance Summer Weekend of Action. The purpose of these voter outreach events is to build up our local town committees and get more Democrats involved, preparing for a strong 2018. Resistance Summer is still underway and knocking doors is the most effective way of getting voters active. Take action in your own community and let’s send a message that Democrats are here and are organizing!

… “Today’s announcement is great news for ensuring competition in New Hampshire’s health care market in 2018, especially given the unnecessary chaos created by President Trump’s attempts to undermine our health care system. Ensuring competition is a key step, but there is still much more to do to stabilize our health care market and drive down costs for Granite Staters . . . Last week’s announcement that the Trump administration is forcing New Hampshire to make changes to our successful NH Health Protection Program (NHHPP) means there’s no time to waste in getting to work. More than 52,000 Granite Staters rely on the NHHPP for their health care and this successful, bipartisan program drives down costs for our businesses, hospitals, working families and our state, stabilizes our insurance market, and plays a vital role in combating the opioid crisis . . . Senate Democrats urge Governor Sununu and our Republican colleagues to stop dragging their feet and begin working with us, across party lines, as soon as possible to improve our health care system and bring down health care costs.” … – Senate Democratic Leader Jeff Woodburn (D-Whitefield)
