Dear Friend,
Thank you to everyone who made it out to the 2018 McIntyre Shaheen 100 Club Dinner on Saturday!
Voting rights champion and 2020 potential presidential candidate Jason Kander joined Senator Shaheen, Senator Hassan, and Congresswoman Kuster to rally the sold-out crowd and get New Hampshire Democrats excited and ready for the 2018 midterms (Congresswoman Shea-Porter was sick and could not attend).
The incredible energy at the event proved once more that Democrats are dedicated and willing to put in the work to regain control of the State House, Executive Council, and Governorship while maintaining control of the both congressional seats this November.
Please continue to use this regular newsletter as a tool for your local committee meetings or as a supplement to your own regular newsletter.
As always, don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions you may have.
Best,

Priority Hearings
Transgender Civil Liberties
Monday, April 16th, 1:30PM / Judiciary / Room 100, State House
SENATE – Judiciary – HB 1319, prohibiting discrimination based on gender identity
Why this matters: This is the second bill in two years that seeks to prevent transgender discrimination. Last year, Republicans tabled this bill, keeping it from even coming up for a vote. Governor Sununu’s sole response was that he had “no personal opinion” on the matter. Now, this legislation with bipartisan support has another chance to pass, which would secure transgendercivil rights under the law.
Supplementing the Medicaid enhancement tax
Tuesday, April 17th, 11:00AM / Finance / Room 210-211, Legislative Office Building
HOUSE – SB 590-FN-A, this amendment would establish a de facto income tax in New Hampshire
Why this matters: Republican Neal Kurk introduced this amendment that will create a de facto income tax in the state of New Hampshire by modifying the Medicaid enhancement tax. This flies in the face of the Live Free or Die creed that the state legislature has long honored. Kurk’s amendment is unnecessary and a betrayal to the people of New Hampshire. |

On the Floor
Ban on Conversion Therapy
Thursday, April 19th / Senate / Full Vote
SENATE – HB 587-FN, banning conversion therapy
Why this matters: With this bill, New Hampshire has a chance to finally ban the terrible and ineffective practice of conversion therapy for minors. Conversion therapy has been proven to increase rates of depression, anxiety, and suicide among LGBTQIA teens. It is far past time for conversion therapy to end in the state of New Hampshire.
Annulling Marijuana Convictions
Thursday, April 19th / Senate / Full Vote
SENATE – HB 1477-FN, relative to annulment of arrests or convictions for possession of 3/4 of an ounce of marijuana, or less
Why this matters: After passing the Senate Judiciary Committee, the Senate will now vote on this bill, which would expunge prior arrests or convictions for possession of a 3/4 ounce of marijuana or less. After the state legislature decriminalized possession of a 3/4 ounce of less of marijuana last year, this is an opportunity to apply this law equally among all Granite Staters. |
